DIVISION II
Hathaway Brown 53,
Walsh Jesuit 48
COLUMBUS
Alanna Guy’s three-pointer from the right corner with 39 seconds left lifted defending champion Hathaway Brown to the victory. The score was tied at 48 when Guy came off a screen and scored her only points of the game. Walsh Jesuit’s Rachel Theriot missed a 3-point attempt on the next possession. Vanessa Smith and Mylan Woods made one free throw apiece in the waning seconds to close out the scoring. Woods, Div. II player of the year, had 15 points, and teammate Alexis Dobbs added 12. Nneka Offodile led Walsh Jesuit (23-3) with 12 points.
Kettering Alter 57,
Miami Trace 46
Junior Courtney Christie had 13 points and her senior sister Ashley Christie added 12 to lead Alter (24-2). Alter won the championship in 2008 by beating Hathaway Brown but lost to the Blazers in last year’s semifinal. All-Ohio first team choice Jenna Cobb had 21 points for Miami Trace but couldn’t overcome the Panthers’ 17 of 47 shooting from the floor.
DIVISION III
Findlay Liberty-Benton 56,
Smithville 34
Caite Craft led a balanced Liberty-Benton attack with 23 points as the Eagles defeated Smithville. Craft hit 6 of 9 3-pointers as Liberty-Benton (26-0) hit seven from beyond the arc to give it 229 for the season, more that any other team in the state. Amanda Hyde, a first team All-Ohio selection, had 19 points and Amber Peterson added 11 for the Eagles. Jenna Pew, also a first-team selection, led Smithville (25-2) with 18 points. Hyde and Craft were too much for Pew to overcome in a freewheeling first half. They had 13 points apiece to counter Pew’s 10 as the Eagles took a 31-20 lead.
Middletown Madison 50,
Ironton 43
Ally Mallot and Lindsay Hoskins had 22 of their combined 30 points in the first half to lead Madison. Mallot, an All-Ohio selection, finished with 18 points and seven rebounds. Hoskins, committed to Lehigh next season, added 12 points and eight rebounds. Nikki Elswick had 14 points and Lorna Ceaser 11 for Ironton (17-7). Madison led 28-24 at the half behind Mallot’s 12 points and Hoskins’ 10. Ironton never led but pulled to within 37-36 on a Elswick bucket with 5:20 to play.
