Maple Syrup Festival to begin Saturday

Boardman Park is sponsoring its 33rd Annual Maple Syrup Festival from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, Sunday and March 27 and 28.

The Maple Syrup Festival is an opportunity to enjoy the outdoors and all the activities. Park staff will demonstrate how maple trees are tapped, sap collected and how the sap is boiled to make syrup.

Civil War re-enactors and wood carvers will be part of the event, and attendees will be able to learn about township history from the Boardman Historical Society. The Water Color Society is part of the festival, and hayrides through the trails also will be available. Admission is free.

The Boardman Rotary Club will be having its annual pancake breakfast during these same dates and times. The cost of breakfast is $6, and children 6 and younger get in free.

Boy Scout Troop 60 will be demonstrating its skills and having a basket raffle. For more information, see www.boardmanpark.com.

Crash injures woman

Police are looking for the all-terrain vehicle and driver involved in an accident that sent one woman to an area hospital.

According to police, Luz Fragosa-Franklin, 38, was taken to St. Elizabeth Health Center in serious condition after an accident between an ATV and a car at 4 p.m. Tuesday on Shehy Street on the East Side. Fragosa-Franklin was a passenger on the ATV. There was no update available Wednesday on her condition. The ATV driver, police said, left the scene of the accident.

Deer breaks in

A deer ran through the window of a vacant Market Street store Wednesday afternoon.

The deer broke through a windowpane at the former Maytag Direct store about 2 p.m. and then, on its own, ran back out, officials said.
