Summer Musical Season including “Brigadoon” “Disney’s 101 Dalmatians” “Bye Bye Birdie” and “Secret Garden,” Straw Hat Theatre at Ashtabula Arts Center, 2928 W. 13th St., Ashtabula. Auditions will be 10 a.m. to noon Saturday for children 12 and under and 1-3 p.m. for teens and adults and 5 -7 p.m. Sunday for teens and adults on a first-come, first-serve basis. “The Pirates of Penzance,” by Gilbert and Sullivan. Auditions for age 12-19 will be 7:30-9:30 p.m. Sunday and 7-9 Monday at Salem Community Theatre, 490 E. State St., Salem. This is a performance/workshop experience, led by David Vosburgh of Opera Western Reserve. The fee is $100 ($50 each additional sibling). “Why I Had To Dance,” choreographed by Dianne McIntyre and written by Ntozake Shange. Idea Center, Playhouse Square, 1375 Euclid Ave., Cleveland. Auditions will be 11 a.m. March 27 for six actor/dancers (18-45), four women (black and Latina) and two men (black). Must have extensive training and performing experience in modern, tap, jazz, Latin or traditional African dance forms; theater training or theater or spoken-word performance experience and be available for rehearsals and performances May 22-29 in afternoon and evenings. Please provide a head shot and r sum . Be prepared to present a brief dance solo (silent or with music CD or iPod) and monologue not more than two minutes long. Be prepared to dance barefoot. “Guys and Dolls,” Stage Left Players will have auditions from 5 to 9 p.m. April 25 and 6 to 9 p.m. April 26 by appointment. Seeking a cast of 30-36 men and women of all ages to play gamblers, hot-box dolls and missionaries. Auditioners should prepare a short, 32-bar musical selection and provide sheet music if music is not from the show. Accompaniment will be provided.
