Joh’Vonnie Mosley is third team All-Ohio

McDonald High senior Joh’Vonnie Mosley, who averaged 22.2 points per game and led the Blue Devils to the district championship game, was named All-Ohio third team in Division IV by The Associated Press on Tuesday.

Mosley, who will attend Kent State on a track & field scholarship, was the only local player to be named to one of the top three teams.

Several other area players received special mention or honorable mention.

Also in Div. IV, Lowellville’s Taylor Hvisdak was named special mention, along with Western Reserve’s Colleen Kennehan.

Lowellville won the district championship for the second consecutive year and shared the Inter Tri-County League Tier Two championship with Western Reserve.

Earning honorable mention honors were Emily Carlson of Lowellville, Victoria Brown of Western Reserve, Kaylynn Barco of Southington and Melissa Sloan of Maplewood.

In Div. III, Aurielle Irizarry of Ursuline, Emily Casto of East Palestine and Paige Loychik of Champion were named special mention.

Irizarry led Ursuline to a district championship, while Loychik guided Champion to a share of the Blue Tier title in the All-American Conference.

Earning honorable mention honors were Tashira Uceta of Campbell Memorial and Andria Lyons of Springfield.

Uceta led Campbell to a share of the AAC Blue Tier championship, while Lyons guided Springfield to a co-championship in the ITCL Tier One.

Tay’ler Mingo of South Euclid Regina, Shicole Watts of Canal Winchester Harvest Prep and Berlin Hiland’s Hilary Weaver took top individual honors.

Mingo was Div. III player of the year.

Watts, who averaged 14.9 points and 10.7 rebounds per game, was co-player of the year in Div. IV with Weaver. She averaged She hit for 14.6 points per game.

Honored as coaches of the year in Division III were Kari Kitchen of Springfield Northeastern and Loudonville’s Joy Taylor. Getting the nod in Division IV were DeGraff Riverside’s Dean Sanford along with Harvest Prep’s David Dennis and Ottoville’s Dave Kleman.
