Ham radio classes set for May


YOUNGSTOWN

The Mahoning Valley Amateur Radio Association will conduct amateur-radio classes at 11 a.m. May 1 and 8 at ITT Technical Institute, 1030 N. Meridian Road.

Registration is required by March 28.

The classes are intended to help ham-radio students review before taking the license exam.

License exams will be given after the May 8 review class for students taking the classes. Students successfully passing this exam will earn an entry-level amateur-radio license from the Federal Communications Commission.

The classes are free, but students are required to obtain a copy of study guide No. 9647 from the American Radio Relay League by calling (888) 277-5289 or borrowing a 2009 version.

Registration is required by March 28. A nonrefundable filing fee for taking the exam is required.
