Clark brothers to retire from military service

Brothers Marine Corps Maj. Daniel Clark and Air Force Maj. Douglas Clark, formerly of Austintown, are retiring April 1 from military service.

They are the sons of Maurice and Anna Marie Clark of Austintown and brothers of David Clark of Austintown, Debbie Stickle of Canfield and Diane Kubick of Hamilton.

The Clarks joined the military immediately after graduating from Austintown Fitch High School, Daniel in 1981 and Douglas in 1990.

Although they are completing their military careers, they said they will continue to serve as military contractors for the Department of Defense.

Daniel will retire with 28 years as a mobility officer for the Marine Corps. Since enlisting in 1981, he has participated in numerous deployments, exercises and operations, including Operations Desert Storm, Desert Shield and Sharp Edge. His most recent deployment was a one-year tour in 2008 in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom.

Daniel and his wife of 18 years, Julie Yonnotti-Clark of Austintown, live in Oceanside, Calif. He has two daughters, Dana Marie Clark of Harrisburg, Pa., and Jessica Yonnotti of Oceanside,

After retirement, he said he will be a distribution contractor with the Marine Corps Logistics Command.

Douglas, who joined the Air Force in 1990, retires after 20 years as a family-practice physician’s assistant. While on active duty, he pursued his education, graduating in 2000 from the University of Nebraska Medical Center with a master’s degree in physician-assistant studies.

He participated in military operations in Africa, Romania and Iraq, with his most recent deployment a six-month tour in 2007 in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom.

Douglas lives in Little Rock, Ark. He has a daughter, Kyrstin Clark, also of Little Rock. After retirement, he will be a physician’s assistant contractor at Little Rock Air Force Base.
