Good Morning

Spell ofF

Two tough competitors from past Vindicator Regional Spelling Bees will be back on stage for the 77th version of the contest today.

Andrew Rossi, who finished second last year, and Julia Miglets, who finished third the past two years, will represent their schools again when the bee begins at 9 a.m. in the Chestnut Room of Kilcawley Center at Youngstown State University. Both are eighth-graders.

Sixty-six students from across Mahoning and Trumbull counties are scheduled to participate. The top prize is an all-expense-paid trip to the Scripps National Spelling Bee in Washington, D.C., at the end of May. The event is open to the public.

You can get your picture taken with an iceberg. Sort of. Iceburgh will be available for pictures and autographs beginning at 6 p.m.; the puck drops at 7:15.

Going, going, etc.

Heartland Christian School, 28 Pittsburgh St., will have its annual spring auction at 10 a.m. Featured at the event will be a silent auction, a Chinese auction, bake sale and a live auction. A full-course breakfast to support the school’s Guatemala team will be from 7:30 to 9:30 a.m.

FOR THE GIRLS

For the second year in a row, the American Girl Fashion Show will offer a fun-filled afternoon for young girls, their families and friends, thanks to the efforts of the Angels of Easter Seals.

This year’s two-day event is today and Sunday at Mr. Anthony’s, 7440 South Ave. in Boardman. Shows are scheduled for 11:30 a.m. and 4 p.m. each day; doors will open a half-hour before each show.

There will be refreshments and door prizes, and girls attending are encouraged to take their American Girl Dolls with them.

Proceeds will benefit the Easter Seals of Mahoning, Trumbull and Columbiana counties.

Local girls will serve as models, and junior and senior girls from Ursuline High School will narrate the programs. Area high school girls will help backstage as dressers, sell raffle tickets and serve as hostesses.
