Fausto Carmona pitched three scoreless innings and the Cleveland Indians blew a three-run lead in the ninth against a Los Angeles Angels split-squad. The game ended 7-7.
The Indians failed to score in their half of the ninth and the game ended in a tie.
Cleveland shortstop Asdrubal Cabrera left with an undisclosed injury in the fourth inning. He walked off after tripling, then diving back on a pickoff attempt.
A few pitches later, trainer Lonnie Soloff went out to check on Cabrera, who walked to the dugout and was replaced by Jason Donald.
“He had a little pain in his leg,” manager Manny Acta said. “He did it diving back. We’ll know more tomorrow.”
Cabrera, moved into the leadoff spot this year by Acta, hit a home run in his first at-bat this spring training and is 5 for 10.
Mike Napoli had a three-run homer in the first inning and added a run-scoring double for the Angels.
Carmona gave up one hit and struck out one in his first outing this spring. The right-hander, a 19-game winner in 2007, is seeking to bounce back from a poor 2009 during which he went 5-12 and was sent back to the minors for two months.
Shortstop Asdrubal Cabrera injured his left leg in the Indians’ game against the Los Angeles Angels on Friday.
Pirates-Braves washed out
KISSIMMEE, Fla.
Atlanta Braves right-hander Jair Jurrjens managed to make his spring debut, anyway.
Jurrjens threw two scoreless innings against the Pirates before the game was called after three due to showers that washed away the exhibition slate in Florida.
Jurrjens had been struggling with inflammation around his right shoulder.
