Federal prisoner indicted for distributing child porn

CLEVELAND — A federal grand jury has indicted a 61-year-old Indiana man on a charge of producing and distributing obscene visual representations of minors engaged in sexually explicit conduct, the U.S. Attorney office announced.

While he was an inmate at the Elkton Federal Correctional Institution in Columbiana County, William J. Platz drew and distributed to another inmate several of the obscene depictions of minors between August 2007 and April 2008, the indictment says.

If convicted of this charge, Platz faces five to 20 years in prison and up to a $250,000 fine, plus five years to life on parole. The case was investigated by the FBI’s Youngstown office.
