The money was donated to St. Jude hospital, the only pediatric cancer-research center where families never pay for treatment not covered by insurance, and no child is denied treatment because of the family’s inability to pay.

Man pleads guilty

WARREN

DeVincent C. Lowery, 18, of Peerless Avenue Southwest pleaded guilty Thursday before Judge John M. Stuard in Trumbull County Common Pleas Court to aggravated burglary, aggravated robbery, kidnapping and felonious assault.

Lowery and Ralph Underwood, 20, of Maryland Street Northwest, were charged after police arrested them outside the Giant Eagle on Mahoning Avenue, where witnesses said they fled after breaking into an occupied home on Tod Avenue Northwest on Jan. 20. Jewelry from the home was recovered from the bed of a pickup truck in the store parking lot, police said.

Lowery will be sentenced after the Adult Probation Department conducts a pre-sentence investigation. He could get more than 30 years in prison. Underwood appears for a pretrial hearing Monday before Judge Peter Kontos.

Police and fire departments responded to a report of a power line down around 4 p.m. Wednesday at 709 E. Liberty St., where a box truck from a business was backing into a driveway.

Fire department personnel inspected the pole and power line, and neither was damaged. Ohio Edison secured the power line.

Road work planned

NEW SPRINGFIELD

Several Springfield Township roads are scheduled for paving and other surface improvements over the next few months.

Township Road Superintendent Rich Kennedy announced when trustees met Wednesday that Mahoning County will pave Middletown Road between Beard and Unity roads.

The county also will seal Rapp Road from Middletown Road to Columbiana-New Castle Road and will level Garfield Road from Route 165 to Beaver-Springfield Road.

In addition, Kennedy said the township will do a $162,000 project to pave portions of South Range Road. The township will pay $55,000 of the project, and state funds will be used for the remainder.
