Police are trying to determine who robbed two people in an Erie Street home at knife point.

According to police, two men pushed in the unlocked front door of a home in the 4100 block of Erie Street on the South Side late Monday evening with one man pulling out a knife and robbing the occupants — a 20-year-old male and 54-year-old female — of $350 and a cell phone.

The occupants said the thieves tried to conceal their identities, but they could still recognize the men as two people with whom they are familiar. No arrests have been made.

Luncheon speaker

Jolene Molitoris, a Warren native who is the director of the Ohio Department of Transportation, will speak on “The Future of Transportation in Ohio” at a Regional Chamber government-affairs council luncheon at 11:30 a.m. March 19 at the Avalon Inn.

Molitoris, a Warren John F. Kennedy High School graduate, is the first female director of ODOT, appointed to the job last year by Gov. Ted Strickland. She also was the first woman to head the Federal Railroad Administration.

Safety upgrades

MINERAL RIDGE

Weathersfield Township trustees authorized the fiscal officer to prepare for bids on the Seaborn Street and the County Line Road safety-upgrade projects.

The Seaborn will cost $180,000 and is a planned three-phase program, and the township’s share is $25,680. The County Line Road Project will total $645,000, including $445,000 from the state and $99,999 each from Mahoning County and Weathersfield. Both projects are being funded by Ohio Public Works money and a local share.

Shooting probed

YOUNGSTOWN

Police are investigating a shooting on the grounds of an East Side housing complex.

Police were called to the 800 block of Plaza View Court in the Plaza View housing development at 2:45 p.m. Tuesday. A maintenance man told police he heard several gunshots then saw several men dressed in black clothes running from the area.

Shortly after the shooting, police were called to St. Elizabeth Health Center to speak with a gunshot victim. A woman who brought in the 19-year-old victim told police the man was shot in the hand after getting into an argument with another man in the Plaza View complex.
