Consumer protection

Consumers sometimes can use a little help protecting themselves in the marketplace. This is National Consumer Protection Week, and the Ohio attorney general’s office will have representatives at the Austintown branch of the public library providing information for consumers.

The presentation is titled “Dollars and Sense: Rated ‘A’ for All Ages.” The program includes consumer education for everyone from grade school to retirement age.

The program runs from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. today at the library, 600 S. Raccoon Road, but you don’t have to stay the whole time. You can pick up tips on how to protect your privacy, manage money and debt, avoid identity theft, understand credit cards and steer clear of fraud.

Man takes chilly ride

UNIONTOWN, Pa. (AP) — Police expect to file charges against a 57-year-old man who was wearing only underwear in frigid temperatures when he hopped on the hood of his girlfriend’s moving car during an argument.

Police in Uniontown have yet to identify the man or his 28-year-old girlfriend, saying they’ll release the names once they sort out what charges to file.

Police were called about 3:20 a.m. Thursday by someone reporting a man riding on the hood of a car, screaming at the woman driving it.
