Girl injures arm in washer

WARREN

A 9-year-old girl living in the 200 block of Atlantic Street Northeast suffered severe injuries to her arm after it got caught in the washing machine at her home.

Warren firefighters dismantled the washing machine over about half an hour to free her, said Warren Fire Chief Ken Nussle.

When ambulance personnel arrived about 8:15 p.m. Monday, the girl’s arm was caught on the machine’s agitator and in a comforter inside the machine. The washer was in the basement.

Nussle said it is not known why the girl put her arm inside the machine, but it was apparently in a wash cycle at the time of the accident because there was water in it. The washer was off when emergency personnel arrived.

The girl was initially taken to St. Joseph Health Center and then transferred by helicopter to a hospital outside the area for multiple fractures and possible other injuries.
