Township trustees will revisit a parking ban issued last month on Fox Haven Drive after receiving a few complaints.
Anthony Vross, who lives on the street, told officials Tuesday they changed the neighborhood’s “way of life” overnight by imposing the restriction. The ban on Fox Haven was to affect the north side of the street and cul-de-sac. Vross said signs were erected on both sides of the street, causing a headache for residents who have family or friends over. Trustees said the ban was supposed to include the north side and cul-de-sac only and that they will look into whether signs have been erected improperly.
Complaints from the road department and residents led to the ban, Trustee Chairwoman Marie Cartwright said, explaining that many residents ignore emergency parking bans during heavy snow. Emergency vehicles and school buses also have trouble getting through when people park on both sides of the street, she explained.
Vross questioned why officials didn’t notify residents or try to communicate with them before making the decision. Cartwright acknowledged they could have done a better job communicating that signs would be going up.
Renee Halfhill, also of Fox Haven, called the parking ban an “awkward situation” and asked trustees to reconsider. A recent family get-together ended with the sheriff’s department showing up to ask that cars be moved from the street.
Cartwright said residents are supposed to have a six-month grace period before the sheriff’s department will ticket or tow cars.
Vross said numerous families have children in high school and the ban will create a problem during graduation parties. The township will notify the sheriff’s department to avoid taking action in such cases as long as residents let officials know they’re having a graduation party.
Ross also complained that aesthetics of the street have been compromised by a large number of “no parking” signs that have gone up.
