The Mahoning County Annual Horseman’s Symposium will be from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. March 27 at the Mahoning County Career and Technical Center, 7300 N. Palmyra Road.
Guest speakers include veterinarians from various equine clinics, an equine dentist, farriers and trainers in all disciplines of horsemanship, including showmanship, reining and barrels. The event also will include safety seminars, emergency seminars, rodeo representatives, and information on equine nutritional and supplemental needs.
There will be vendors, an art show, face painting and a Chinese Auction. Breakfast and lunch will be available.
The cost is $3 per person.

Candidate leaves race for Congress
LISBON
Sam A. Hepfner of 1001 Cunningham Road, Salem, has told the Columbiana County Board of Elections he was withdrawing his candidacy for the congressional seat held by U.S. Rep. Charlie Wilson, D-6th.
Hepfner was one of four Republicans who were seeking the seat. Hepfner gave no reason for the withdrawal, but he asked the elections board not to print his name on the Republican ballot in May.
4-H clubs schedule Community Day
CANFIELD
4-H Community Day will be from 1 to 3 p.m. March 20 at the Lord of Life Lutheran Church, 550 N. Broad St. Each Mahoning County 4-H group will showcase an individual club. The public is invited.
Junior Group plans auction
BOARDMAN
The Junior Group of Goodwill will have an antiques and collectibles auction at 11 a.m. March 20 at George Roman’s Western Reserve Auction Center, 1221 W. Western Reserve Road.
There will be a preview of items from 10 to 11 a.m. Admission is $2 or free with a ticket stub from the group’s Feb. 5 event. There will be no sale of jewelry at this auction.

Town-hall meeting
YOUNGSTOWN — Councilman John R. Swierz will have a town-hall meeting at 6 p.m. Thursday at the OCCHA hall, 3660 Shirley Road. The event will be hosted by the 7th Ward Citizens Coalition.
Swierz, D-7th, said that city administrators will attend the meeting to answer questions.
The meeting is open to the public. Refreshments will be served.
