TOYOTA’S DEFENSE: Toyota is swinging back at critics who say that the electronics of its gas pedals may be to blame for cases of trucks and cars that speed up on their own.

FAULTY TEST?: Toyota is rebutting tests by an Illinois professor who was able to rev the engine of some Toyota models by tinkering with the gas pedal wiring. Toyota says the tests don’t mimic “real-world” conditions and wouldn’t occur on the road.
