Slain standoff suspect was drunk, acting crazy

COUDERSPORT, Pa. (AP) — State police say an armed man they fatally shot during a standoff at his north-central Pennsylvania home acted “drunk and crazy” and threatened to harm police.

That information is contained in an arrest warrant police sought for 30-year-old Joshua Wheeler, of Harrison Valley. Before police could arrest him, a trooper fatally shot Wheeler after he allegedly fired at least six shots from inside his home during a nearly six-hour standoff on Sunday.

State police from Coudersport say they went to Wheeler’s home about 9:45 a.m. after a report that he was walking down the street with an assault rifle and was “drunk and crazy.”

Police say Wheeler yelled threats at police, saying “this will end in blood.” Police have yet to release the name of the trooper who shot Wheeler.
