ISLE honors two employees at luncheon

Special to The Vindicator Two employees of Iron and String Life Enhancement were recognized for their unstinting work with adults and children with disabilities during an annual Employee of the Year luncheon in January. Iron and String Life Enhancement, 12 S. Phelps St., honored two employees during the 3rd annual Employee of the Year Luncheon Jan. 29 in the social hall at Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church.
Recognized for excellence in performance during 2009 were Mike Lucas and Kelly Buhro, employees of ISLE Inc. Both work one-on-one with individuals with autism and multiple physical and mental disabilities.
Lucas is part of the direct-care staff responsible for clients who live within ISLE Residential. He also donates his time to take clients on day and weekend trips. Buhro is a standout day program instructor at The Purple Cat in Coitsville,
Iron & String provides residential, respite, advocacy, transportation and vocational services to individuals with disabilities in Mahoning and Trumbull counties. It is the parent company of Golden String Inc., The Purple Cat and Touch the Moon Candy Saloon.
Golden String, a non-profit agency, helps adults and children with disabilities to realize their fullest potential, and offers community-based activities, recreation and socialization.
The Purple Cat provides creative day programming services to adults with disabilities. It offers practical learning experiences, daily living skills and activities, which provide education and employment.
Touch the Moon Candy Saloon on South Phelps Street, offers functional employment and helps those with disabilities to participate in a wide range of vocational job opportunities.
