Cardinal ousts Brookfield in OT

Tyler Walters scored 22 points and T.J. Sweigart added 16 to lead Cardinal over Brookfield, 61-58 in overtime, in a Division III sectional final at the boys basketball tournament at Howland High School on Saturday night.

Pablo Diaz scored 16 points for Brookfield (13-9), which shot just 29 percent from the field (20 of 69).

Diaz also had 11 rebounds, while Jimmy Hawley added 12 points for the Warriors. Elliot Taylor finished with 10 points and Michael Johnson had 10 rebounds.

Cardinal outscored Brookfield 13-10 in the overtime after tying the game at 48-all through regulation.

Cardinal, the No. 5 seed, advanced to play top-seeded Newton Falls in a district semifinal Wednesday.
