100 dogs need homes

CHAMPION

The Animal Welfare League of Trumbull County is making its temporary shelter at 186 Cleveland Ave. West open to the public from noon to 4 p.m. seven days a week for pet adoptions.

Of the 162 dogs rescued from the Humane Sanctuary in Gustavus Township recently, 100 are still waiting for homes there. Adoption fee is $65. For more information or directions call (330) 394-3512 or (330) 399-2086.

The facility is located in the back of a commercial building on the west side of Mahoning Avenue at Cleveland Avenue.

Barbara Busko, League president, says it’s important to note that some of the dogs are going to need extra patience from their new masters to adapt to a new home.

Many were kept in cages in Gustavus Township and are not house-broken, and many are learning or re-learning how to walk on a leash.

Endangering charge

YOUNGSTOWN

Police arrested Christina M. Gradillas, 30, of 37051‚Ñ2 Loveland Road on charges of child endangering and drug paraphernalia after witnesses reported seeing her drop her 4-month-old baby three times in the snow and on the pavement Thursday as she was walking on Midlothian Boulevard.

When officers found Gradillas about 4:20 p.m., she said she was trying to make it to a doctor because the baby had fallen off the couch earlier.

Gradillas was not speaking clearly and was unable to control herself physically, police said. Marks on her arm were consistent with heroin use, and a suspected crack pipe was found in her clothing, police said.

The baby is in the custody of Mahoning County Children Services; Gradillas was taken to the Mahoning County jail.
