the 82nd Academy Awards (8:30 P.M., ABC): In an effort to boost those saggy ratings, producers are taking a more-is-better approach to Hollywood’s big bash this year. Now, we’ve got two hosts — Steve Martin and Alec Baldwin — instead of one. And the best picture category has expanded from five to 10 nominees, including strong favorites “Avatar” and “The Hurt Locker.” That’s fine with us, but there’s one area where we hope to see absolutely no signs of bloating: The show’s running time.
“The Amazing Race” (8 p.m., CBS): On “The Amazing Race,” the teams fly to Germany, where they retrace the early days of the Beatles in Hamburg. They also try something the Fab Four probably never did: Bungee jumping.
“Big Love” (9 p.m., HBO): It’s hard to believe, but the Season 4 finale of “Big Love” is already here. Tonight’s episode has Bill putting the squeeze on Paley (Perry King) in an attempt to protect his candidacy. But Marilyn (Sissy Spacek) has a plan that could wreck Bill’s chances.
