The investigation continues into the case of a woman shot outside the city municipal building after fleeing from the courtroom inside.

Detective Sgt. John Rusnak said that shortly before noon Friday, Angela Harris, no age or address available, was being arraigned before Municipal Judge Patrick Cunning.

The judge ruled that Harris had violated her probation, the detective said, and told her she would be arrested. The judge set bond at $1,000 for Harris to get out of jail.

“She decided she wasn’t going to go to jail, and she ran out of the courtroom,” Rusnak said. “She ran out of the courtroom, out the front doors, and to a car.”

Although earlier reports said another person was in the car, Rusnak said no one was in the car at the time. However, there was another person in the car with Harris when she arrived at the court earlier, he added.

“The bailiff [James Cioffi] gave chase, telling her to come back, but she didn’t listen to him,” the detective said.

Harris tried to get into the car’s driver’s side but when she couldn’t open the door, she ran around to the passenger side and got in, he said.

Cioffi drew his service weapon, telling the woman to get out of the car, he continued.

Harris “made attempts at the handgun. One witness said Harris grabbed it and it discharged one round,” injuring Harris, Rusnak said.

Harris was transported to St. Elizabeth Health Center in Youngstown. She was listed in stable condition Friday, but no information about her condition was available Saturday evening.

Cioffi wasn’t injured.

Police found a stun gun in the center console of the vehicle.
