Trooper promoted

Sgt. Nakia J. Hendrix, a Mahoning Valley native, was promoted to the rank of lieutenant Feb. 26 by Col. David W. Dicken, Patrol superintendent, during a ceremony at the patrol’s academy.

Hendrix will transfer from his current assignment at the Canfield Post to serve as the post commander at the Cambridge Post, which services Guernsey and Noble counties.

Hendrix began his patrol career in February 1999 as a member of the 133rd Academy Class. He earned his commission in July of that year and was assigned to the Wooster Post.

As a trooper, Hendrix also served at the Canton, Hiram, Warren and Wooster posts, as well as at the training academy.

In September 2005, he was promoted to the rank of sergeant and transferred to the Ashtabula Post to serve as an assistant post commander. A year later, he transferred to the Hiram Post and most recently served at the Canfield Post since May 2007. Hendrix lives in Hubbard with his wife, Wendy, and their three children.

Eagle honors

James P. Hazenstab III, 18, of Jennette Drive, Boardman, son of James and Tracy Hazenstab Jr., recently received the Eagle Scout Award at a Court of Honor at Camp Stambaugh in Canfield. His scoutmaster is Eric Grabman, and he has been a member of Troop 46 at Boardman United Methodist Church since 2003.

Hazenstab has had the offices of troop quartermaster and troop instructor and has earned 28 merit badges.

His Eagle Scout service project was to build a pavilion at Poland Memorial Baptist Church for church activities.

He is a senior at Boardman High School, where he is a member of the Industrial Arts Club. He is a member of Poland Memorial Baptist Church and works at Hazenstab Machine Inc. with his father.
