Poland North Elementary is preparing for spring and planning outdoor projects.

Garden tools, potato planters and a cedar planting station the school purchased will be used to care for the thousands of flowers and vegetables grown in the school’s greenhouse and to help plant a pizza garden. A new bird bath will decorate the school’s outside garden area along with a shade structure the school plans to build to protect students and staff from the sun.

Over the past six years, Poland North has developed its greenhouse and surrounding area with close to $18,000 in grant money. The school site is going to become a WILD School site by the Ohio Department of Natural Resources.

The school will host a March workshop for teachers, youth groups leaders and naturalists that will focus on outdoor education.
