North students visit Pro Football Hall of Fame

Did you know that George Hallas saw his Chicago football team as being stronger and bigger than the city’s baseball team and decided to name it the Bears?
Fun facts, history and the impact of the NFL was part of the experience for fourth-grade students at Poland North Elementary on their Feb. 24 field trip to the Pro Football Hall of Fame in Canton.
The students had a blast touring the facility and learning how NFL teams acquired their nicknames. They learned that in the early years, many professional teams had the same name as the baseball team. Hallas was the first person to break this trend.
