Five Cardinals flying to state tournament

Neighbors | Submitted.Five wrestlers from the Canfield Middle School wrestling team advanced to the state tournament in Marion, Ohio, Mar. 20 and 21. Under the direction of head coach Steve DeMaiolo and assistant coach Jay Neopolitan, five Canfield Middle School wrestlers have qualified for the state tournament in Marion, Ohio, Mar. 20-21.

Stephen Daprile (eighth grade) qualified by finishing fourth at districts in the 90-pound weight class. Korey Frost (eighth grade) won district at 102 pounds, while Bryan Batton (eighth grade) qualified with a sixth-place finish in the 114-pound bracket.

Shawn Williams (eighth grade) took second at 154 pounds and Curtis Burns (eighth grade) was third as a heavyweight.

Two other wrestlers are alternates for the tournament. CJ Frost (sixth grade) took seventh at 96 pounds and Paul Harris (eighth grade) was seventh at 176 pounds.
