Defendant shot during struggle
CAMPBELL
A woman appearing in Campbell Municipal Court on Friday afternoon on a probation violation was shot by the court bailiff after she fled outside, trying to avoid being arrested, reports say.
According to WFMJ, The Vindicator’s broadcast partner, the woman ran from the courtroom to a car in the parking lot, where another person was in the driver seat.
Judge Patrick Cunning’s bailiff, James Cioffi, ordered the woman to stop, then struggled with her as she was sitting in the car, WFMJ reports.
During the struggle, Cioffi’s .40-caliber pistol fired and struck the woman in the torso.
She was taken to St. Elizabeth Health Center, where she was listed in stable condition Friday night, according to WFMJ.
Neither Police Chief Gus Sarigianopolos nor Detective John Rusnak, who is investigating the incident, returned phone calls Friday night.

The local franchises hope to more than double that amount this year.
Any women thinking about joining Curves can bring in a bag of groceries when joining and have the normal service fee waived between Monday and March 20.
All of the local Curves are also asking those who are not considering joining the club to bring in a bag of nonperishable groceries that will benefit the Rescue Mission.
