Young women to receive Bright Futures Awards

The YWCA of Youngs-town, The Vindicator and Akron Children’s Hospital will present the 16th annual Young Women With Bright Futures Awards Program during a 10 a.m. breakfast meeting Saturday at the Holiday Inn on South Avenue.

Singled out for recognition by school teachers and school administrators will be 27 young women who have excelled in leadership, school and community service, scholarship and academic excellence, and creative talents.

The 2010 Bright Futures honorees are:

Every year Bright Future honorees are given the opportunity to enter an optional essay contest. They are asked to write about the YWCA’s mission of Eliminating Racism and Empowering Women, what this means to them, and what they do or plan to do in that regard. This year’s essay winner is Ashley Baron from Struthers High School.

The keynote speaker for the event will be Roxann Sebest, WKBN-27 First News personality and a former Bright Futures honoree.

Chair for the festivities is Mary A. Williams.
