Here’s an old Johnny Carson skit

Carnac the Magnificent might say: “Judge Parker, Cathy, B.C., and Funky Winkerbean.”

And Ed McMahon would repeat his words and earn a Carnac curse.

Then Carnac would tear open an envelope, pull out a card and read: “Name an arbiter, a carb-eater, a cave-sitter and a type of Winkerbean.”

More to the point: These comics are still in our newspaper. Seriously. They have been published every day this week. We kid you not. They can be found on the page directly behind the color comics page (on page C6 today). They moved to join their old friend Hazel in the classified section to make way for our new color comics page and some increased sizes. A few readers have missed them and have called to express outrage that they have been canceled.

They have not.

All that Jazz

If some of the news makes you agitated, you might need some relaxation, something to take your mind off things. Perhaps the sounds of acoustic guitarist Julius Veal are what you need. He’s described as a smooth, jazzy soul balladier. He’ll be playing at noon today at the Lemon Grove Cafe on West Federal Street downtown.

Did you say ‘utes’?

If your tastes run more to art, you’re in luck, too. The Art Outreach Gallery’s fourth annual School Art Exhibition will kick off National Youth Art Month today at the gallery in Eastwood Mall in Niles.

The exhibition features the artwork of students from Girard and Niles schools, East and Canfield high schools and Austintown Watson and Woodside elementary schools.

This is the first of three consecutive art shows featuring student artwork. The schedule of events during the first show today is 6 to 7 p.m., Austintown Watson and Woodside Elementary School Art Reception. The gallery is in the concourse between Macy’s and Sears.
