PFS is celebrating 66 years of service

Celebrating 66 years of service to the community, Protestant Family Service approved its 2010 budget and installed a new board of trustees at its annual dinner meeting on Feb. 15 at Third Baptist Church, 1177 Park Hill Drive.
During the business portion of the evening, the 2010 proposed budget of $94,100 was approved.
The Rev. Morris Lee of Third Baptist installed the 2010 board of trustees, Holly Anthony, Jeanne Cotters Monroe, Mark Pecchia and Leslie Viczay. The Rev. Gwendolyn Johnson is the new board president, succeeding Chuck Rudge, who served two terms as president.
Pastors, volunteers and staff were recognized for their past, present and continued commitment to the ministry of PFS. Musical entertainment was provided by For Grace male chorus from Grace African Methodist Episcopal Church in Warren.
Jacqueline Burley, agency director, thanked the pastors for their churches and mission groups who take up collections for PFS, the board and committee members who oversee the operations of the agency and participate in the fund-raisers, the volunteers who give of their time to come into the office daily, and the staff for their service. PFS served more than 2,600 individuals in 2009, which was about a 40 percent increase from 2008.
PFS is a nonprofit agency providing monetary assistance with utilities, rent and life-sustaining medications and has an on-site food pantry. PFS receives donations from churches, church groups, individuals, organizations and grants to operate its mission to the community.
