Volunteers from Hospice of the Valley are having a pancake breakfast fundraiser from 8:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. Sunday at Canfield United Methodist Church, 27 S. Broad St., Canfield.
Tickets are $5 for adults, $3 for children age 4 to 12, and free for children 3 and under. Tickets may be purchased at the door.

Clinical trial
AKRON
Akron Children’s Hospital is one of 50 medical centers in the United States participating in the third phase of the international DiaPrevent clinical trial evaluating the effectiveness of a vaccine to prevent further progression of Type 1 diabetes, also known as juvenile diabetes, in newly diagnosed patients.
The clinical trial comprises 320 children and young adults age 10 to 20 who have been diagnosed with Type 1 diabetes within the last three months.

Autism grants
PITTSBURGH
The Autism Center at Children’s Hospital of Pittsburgh of UPMC has been awarded two National Institutes of Mental Health grants totaling nearly $1.33 million to conduct two studies: one aimed at treating sleep disturbances in young children with autism; and the other a structured parent-training program aimed at reducing autism-related behavioral issues.

During March, Colorectal Cancer Awareness Month, the American Cancer Society encourages men and women 50 and older to get tested for colorectal cancer.

In recognition of March as Colorectal Cancer Awareness Month, Humility of Mary Health Partners is offering free Fecal Occult Blood Test (FOBT) kits.
An FOBT is a simple chemical test that can detect hidden blood in the stool, which can be a symptom of colorectal cancer.

St. Joseph Health Center’s volunteer department is offering an informational program on stroke symptoms for those 55 years and older at 2:30 p.m. March 23.
