Hearing on charges set for Pa. teen hurt by police
PITTSBURGH (AP) — A preliminary hearing is set on criminal charges faced by a teenage arts student who has accused three city police officers of wrongly beating him during his arrest.
The FBI is investigating civil rights allegations by 18-year-old Jordan Miles, who is charged with assaulting the officers.
Miles’ attorney says his client has passed an FBI lie detector test and will be exonerated. Miles claims the officers, who have been suspended for the Jan. 12 confrontation, are the aggressors.
The hearing on Miles’ criminal charges was set for Thursday morning in Pittsburgh City Court.
Police say they thought Miles had a weapon and was acting suspiciously. The black teenager contends the white officers attacked him because they assumed he was a troublemaker because of his race.
