‘Twilight’ actor Facinelli coming to Eastwood Mall
NILES
Peter Facinelli, who played Dr. Carlisle Cullin in the hit movies “Twilight” and its sequel, “New Moon,” will be at Eastwood Mall from noon to 5 p.m. Saturday to greet fans. Autographs and photos with Facinelli can be purchased for $25 and $40, respectively, with partial proceeds going to benefit the Alex’s Lemonade Stand Foundation, a charity that seeks a cure for childhood cancer.
Facinelli has been quite busy in recent years. In 2007, he had a role in the FX series “Damages.” The following year, he signed on as Dr. Carlisle Cullen, the patriarch of a brood of vampires in the “Twilight” franchise. He recently completed shooting the third installment, “Eclipse,” scheduled for release later this year. Facinelli also plays Dr. Fitch “Coop” Cooper in the Showtime series “Nurse Jackie.”
Roller derby team to launch season
AKRON
The Rubber City Rollergirls’ second season kicks off March 13 at John S. Knight Center against the Killamazoo Derby Darlins from Michigan. “Roller derby is making a huge comeback, with hundreds of teams across the country. We love being part of its resurgence,” said Patricia Rizzo, recruitment director and team captain. “And although there continues to be a residual perception of roller derby from the old days, the tide is turning. Anyone who watches today’s roller derby realizes this is a real sport.”
The Rubber City Rollergirls were recently accepted to the Women’s Flat Track Derby Association’s (WFTDA) apprentice program, with the eventual goal of becoming officially sanctioned. To learn more or for ticket information, go to rubbercityrollergirls.com.
