Inmate strangling suspect moved to another prison
INDIANA, Pa.
(AP) — Authorities say an inmate suspected of strangling another at a western Pennsylvania prison for younger offenders has been moved to another facility.
State police have yet to charge anyone in the death of 29-year-old Jayson Mahlon Robert Stewart. He was found dead about 3 a.m. Sunday in his cell at State Correctional Institution-Pine Grove, in White Township. That’s about 45 miles northeast of Pittsburgh.
State police have yet to identify the suspect who has been moved to another facility.
Authorities say the men had bunked together for three days in a restricted housing unit. Inmates can be sent there for disciplinary reasons or for their own protection if they are suicidal or threatened by other inmates.
Officials aren’t saying why either inmate was there.
