Child and man rescued by firefighters from smoky house

WARREN — Firefighters removed an unconscious 4-year-old boy and an unconscious 22-year-old man from a smoke-filled house on Maryland Street Northeast early Tuesday after three other family members had escaped.

Javearie Crenshaw, 4, and Mark Sheets, 22, were removed from separate bedrooms on the second floor of the house, given oxygen and taken to local hospitals, said Ken Nussle, Warren fire chief. He said it appears both were later transferred to Akron Children’s Hospital.

Three other people escaped the 8:30 a.m. fire and were outside at the time firefighters arrived, Nussle said, adding that there was a working fire alarm in the house that was still sounding as firefighters arrived.

They are Sharon Albert, 38; Brittany Sheets, 25; and JayQwon Crenshaw, 5. It appears that all but JayQwon Crenshaw received treatment for their injuries, Nussle said.

Albert had apparently inhaled a great deal of smoke and was covered in soot, apparently from her efforts to rescue others from the house, Nussle said.
