Do the time; erase the stain

Do the time; erase the stain

EDITOR:

“J.J. Cafaro must serve time in the federal penitentiary,” The Vindicator wrote Feb. 25. A friend now deceased had a favorite saying “its the Youngstown mentality.” It is exceedingly true in this case. Mr. William Cafaro Sr. is rolling in his grave at the antics of his son. I was not exactly a friend of Mr. Cafaro Sr., but did know him from the Ritz Bar on the corner of Wilson Avenue and Himrod Street on the East Side of Youngstown. With my friends, we enjoyed the atmosphere of the Ritz Bar, and Sigma Delta Beta Fraternity held our banquets there.

When Mr. Cafaro was contemplating building the Eastwood Mall and visited the Second National Bank at that time on business, we were able to discuss the “old days.” He was also active in the Democratic Party, but he did not cross the line. Honor was a primary concern with him. It is too bad that his son did not follow in his father’s footsteps.

J.J. should serve his time. It is the only way that Youngstown may be able to erase the 18th worst city “accolade” afforded to Youngstown by the Forbes magazine.
