POLICE CALLS

A summary of recent criminal activity in Poland and Boardman townships:

POLAND

June 22

Attempted burglary: Two men, age 18 to 20, apparently tried to break into a residence in the 6800 block of Clingan Road before the homeowner said he saw them fleeing on foot to a wooded area.

June 23

Burglary: Took place in the 4700 block of Kennedy Road through the front door. Stolen were $4,000, four birth certificates and a vehicle title.

June 24

Criminal damaging: Someone cut a chain-link fence to a gate at landfill property off South State Line Road.

June 25

Burglary: To a home in the 2300 block of Lyon Boulevard, where a 42-inch flat-screen TV, an air-conditioning unit, an electronics box and three digital photographs were taken. The loss came to $2,300.

BOARDMAN

June 25

Domestic violence: Police charged Blake M. Howell, 47, of 261 Meadowbrook Ave., with the crime after a family member alleged Howell had punched her in the stomach and threatened her with a rifle.

Theft: Patricia A. Sherman, 35, of 769 Third St., Warren, and 56-year-old Larry F. Drummond, 614 Austin Ave., Warren, were charged with theft and complicity to theft, respectively, after 50 articles of clothing were stolen from Gabriel Bros., 850 Boardman-Poland Road.

Arson: Police and firefighters responded to a suspicious fire in a basement storage bin at a residence in the 4100 block of Glenwood Avenue. The township’s arson investigator said the fire appeared to have been deliberately set, a police report showed.

Theft: Someone took $5 from a vehicle parked in the 5900 block of Lightner Place.

Theft: A Mathews Road woman lost and found her purse, though $133 was missing.

Breaking and entering: Someone entered a garage in the 7400 block of Westview Drive and tried to steal a 1997 GMC Jimmy vehicle.

Assaults: Police charged 40-year-old Nicole R. Bethel, 615 Sanderson Ave., Campbell, with two counts of assault after responding to a fight in the 400 block of Boardman-Poland Road. A woman and her daughter claimed Bethel had struck them, causing minor injuries.

Theft: Two gutters were removed from a yard in the 7100 block of Ron Joy Place.

Theft: Someone took two tool chests from D&M Auto Repair Inc., 4200 Simon Road.

Theft: A man’s cell phone was stolen at a Market Street restaurant.

Burglary: To a home in the 100 block of Beechwood Drive by the front door. Twenty-five DVDs, an Xbox system, 15 Xbox games and two Wii-game controllers were taken.

June 26

Arrest: Columbiana police handed Brad A. Weber, 27, of 526 N. Main St., Columbiana, to township authorities. Weber was wanted on a warrant charging him with theft.

Arrest: A traffic stop in the 5900 block of South Avenue resulted in the arrest of 42-year-old Michelle R. Mixon, 430 Norwood Ave., Youngstown, who was wanted by Weathersfield Township police on a charge of failing to appear in court.

Misuse of a credit card: A Windel Way woman found out her debit card had been used to make an unauthorized $499 withdrawal.

Theft/misuse of a credit card: A Sugarcane Drive man reported his stolen credit cards were used without consent to make two debits to his checking account totaling $1,016.50.

Arrest: Officers picked up 25-year-old Jason L. Womack, 151 W. Lucius Ave., Youngstown, in the 500 block of Boardman-Canfield Road. Womack was wanted by Liberty police on a larceny charge.

Unauthorized use of a vehicle: A South Avenue man said his girlfriend took and refused to return his 1996 Ford Explorer.

Criminal damaging: Someone threw a rock and broke a 2-by-4-foot double-pane window in the 4000 block of Glenwood Avenue.

Drug paraphernalia: Officers responded to a person asleep in a car in the 900 block of Boardman-Poland Road, then charged 26-year-old Jason T. Marchese of North Canton with possession of drug paraphernalia and operating a vehicle impaired. A suspected marijuana pipe was found, a report said.

Auto theft: A 1999 Ford Taurus was stolen in the 200 block of Prestwick Drive.

Criminal damaging: Someone tossed a can, striking and causing scratches to a truck on Western Reserve Road.

Breaking and entering: Someone entered a garage in the 3900 block of Stratmore Avenue and took credit card and checkbooks from a vehicle.

Theft: A gold ring and a revolver were stolen from a residence in the 90 block of Ferncliff Avenue.

Theft: Baby powder and other related items were taken from Family Dollar, 4026 South Ave.

Theft: A rosary, $80 and a credit card were missing from a car in the 7300 block of Westview Drive.

Arrest: Police pulled over 22-year-old Norman D. Weimer Jr., 1235 S. Meridian Road, Youngstown, near Brookwood Road and took him into custody upon learning Weimer was wanted by Austintown authorities on a charge of telephone harassment.

June 27

Criminal damaging: A Cook Avenue man accused his girlfriend of cutting and damaging his motorcycle’s leather seat.

Harassment: A Lost Tree Drive woman reported getting 25 unwanted cell-phone calls.

Assaults: A Steubenville man reported having been punched while in his vehicle in the 300 block of Oak Avenue. At the scene, police also found another man lying in the garage with injuries to his knee and chest.

Criminal damaging: A lamp post and various flowers were damaged at a home in the 7100 block of Trenholm Drive.

Theft: A man and a woman stole roughly $333 of merchandise from Walgreen’s Pharmacy, 525 E. Midlothian Blvd.

Theft: A license plate was removed from a vehicle in the 1000 block of Tiffany Boulevard.

Domestic violence: Molly A. Bergman, 34, of 477 Garver Drive, was charged after her husband alleged that during an argument, Bergman slapped his face and scratched his chest. Several scratches were found, police said.

June 28

Criminal damaging: A vehicle in the 6700 block of Appleridge Boulevard sustained damage to its hood, doors, fender and quarter panel.

Assault: An East Palestine man reported having been pushed during an altercation in the 7300 block of Bonnie Place. He had injuries to his neck and left arm.

Theft: A global-positioning-system unit was removed from a car parked in the 800 block of Trailwood Drive.

Theft: John R. Dickey, 18, of 110 N. Evanston St., Youngstown, faced charges of theft and possession of criminal tools after being accused of using a pair of scissors to open a package at Walmart, 1300 Doral Drive, and stealing two bottles of cologne

Forgery: Brent J. Whan, 28, of 9075 Briarwood Court, Canfield, surrendered to township police on two felony counts of forgery.

Arrest: Youngstown police handed to Boardman authorities 47-year-old Timothy E. Lewis, 638 W. Ravenwood Ave., Youngstown. Lewis was wanted on a charge of passing a bad check.

Forgery: A worker for Youngstown Pipe & Supply Co., 4100 Lake Park Road, discovered someone had forged and cashed a $2,920 check at a Columbus bank.

Criminal damaging: Someone cut a chain-link fence at a home in the 7300 block of Indian Trail.

Theft: A laptop computer, a debit card and money were removed from a vehicle parked in the 6700 block of Applewood Boulevard.

Criminal damaging: A car’s passenger-side window was pried open in the 700 block of Kentwood Drive.

Theft: An undisclosed amount of money was missing from a deposit made from Pet Supplies Plus, 411 Boardman-Canfield Road.

Theft: Several items, including money and a wallet, were missing from a vehicle in the 800 block of Terraview Drive.

Truck theft: A 2004 Chevrolet Trailblazer was stolen in the 6600 block of Bristlewood Drive.

Theft: A purse was taken from a vehicle in the 600 block of Oakridge Drive.

Thefts: Two Sierra Madre Trail women reported property stolen from their cars, including a $2,700 diamond ring.

Theft/damage: A gym bag was stolen from a vehicle that had damage to a driver’s-side door and window in the 600 block of Forest Ridge Drive.

Domestic violence: James A. Wolfe, 24, of 6032 Applecrest Court, Boardman, faced a felony charge and was taken to the Mahoning County jail after his girlfriend alleged Wolfe had pushed and tried to throw her out of the residence during an argument. He also choked the woman, causing her to temporarily black out, a report said.
