Jason Kokrak shoots 67, wins Bushnell title

CARTHAGE, N.C.

Jason Kokrak of Warren won his second event on the eGolf Professional Tour’s Bushnell Championship on Saturday.

Kokrak posted a final-round 67 to notch a two-shot victory over Chesson Hadley, of Raleigh, N.C., and Tommy Biershenk, of Boiling Springs, S.C.

Kokrak (63-66-70-67-266) won $33,857.

George Hobaugh won the Micro Sprint Division at Deerfield Raceway.

Mark Marcucci took the TUSA Mod Lite Division race while the Chargers event went to Josh Walker.

The E- Mod winner was Brandon Blackshear and Mike Wilson captured the Compact Division.

Jacob Bova claimed the Jr. Sprints and Breyton Santee won the Jr. Mod Class.

US softball team beats Dominican Republic

CARACAS, Venezuela

The United States defeated the Dominican Republic 10-1 to improve its record to 6-0 in group play at the world softball championships.

Jennie Finch was the winning pitcher for the defending champions, who will face the Czech Republic today in its final group match. The quarterfinals are Wednesday, followed by the semifinals on Thursday and the final Friday.

In other results Monday: Cuba 5, Argentina 0; Australia 10, New Zealand 0.

Mixed martial arts fighter dies after debut

COLUMBIA, S.C.

A mixed martial arts fighter has died from brain injuries in his professional debut.

The Aiken County coroner said Monday that 30-year-old Michael Kirkham died from bleeding inside the brain. Coroner Tim Carlton said Kirkham collapsed following Saturday night’s fight at the USC Aiken Convocation Center.

He added that Kirkham was taken to Aiken Regional Medical Center and never regained consciousness. Carlton said an autopsy will be done today.

Kirkham was from South Carolina and nicknamed “Tree” because he is 6-foot-9. He had fought six times as an amateur before turning pro.

US women’s soccer team calls up 24

CHICAGO

U.S. Women’s soccer coach Pia Sundhage has called up 24 players for the team’s two matches against Sweden in July.

Among those who could be selected for the 18-player roster are four who were not available when the U.S. defeated Germany 4-0 in Cleveland in May.

Midfielder Carli Lloyd has recovered from a broken ankle and attacker Kelley O’Hara has overcome some foot issues.

Outside back Meghan Schnur also returns from a knee injury. Forward Lauren Cheney missed the Germany game due to a personal commitment.

The U.S. will play Sweden July 13 in Omaha, Neb., and on July 17 in East Hartford, Conn.

Coach banned for life for drug trafficking

DENVER

Former Jamaican track star Raymond Stewart, who went on to coach banished American sprinter Jerome Young and other Olympic medalists, has been kicked out of the sport for life for obtaining performance-enhancing drugs for his athletes.

The U.S. Anti-Doping Agency announced the ban Monday, after an arbitration panel determined Stewart bought drugs from Angel Memo Heredia, whose cooperation has been used in investigations of banned coach Trevor Graham and others.
