BATAVIA, N.Y.

The Mahoning Valley Scrappers’ three-game winning streak in the New York-Penn League came crashing to an inglorious halt on Monday night.

The Scrappers (5-6) led by a run after six inning, but the host Batavia Muckdogs (5-6) tied the score in the bottom of the seventh inning, then exploded for eight runs an inning later to hand the Scrappers an 11-3 defeat.

J.D. Goryl (0-1) was the unfortunate victim of the Muckdogs’ eighth-inning carnage. He came on at the start of the inning and was on the mound for the whole thing, facing 11 batters.

Eight Batavia batters got hits and another walked.

Jonathon Rodriguez had the big hit in the inning, a two-run homer with two outs that actually finished off the rally.

Audry Perez hit a two-run single that drove in the first two runs of the inning and broke a 3-3 tie.

Victor Sanchez also hit a two-run single, and two more runs came in on Scrappers’ shortstop Tyler Cannon’s throwing error.

Five players had singles for Mahoning Valley.

Cannon drove in a pair of runs in the fifth inning with his base hit.

The Scrappers’ other run came in the second, when Andrew Kinney singled and scored on a double play.
