BOARDMAN

Residents will be asked to renew three school levies in November.

The board of education voted during its meeting Monday to place the renewals on the November ballot.

As part of the same vote, the board approved asking the Mahoning County auditor to certify the current tax valuation of the district and the dollar amount of revenue that would be generated by the levies.

The board must submit the tax proposal to the county board of elections by Aug. 4 to place the levies on the November ballot.

A five-year, 6-mill levy, originally passed in 1991, generates $3,205,238 each year.

A five-year, 5.9-mill levy, first passed in 1996, provides $3,828,687 annually.

And a three-year, 1.7-mill emergency levy, originally passed in 1984, brings in $1,468,744 each year.

The levies account for about 21 percent of the district’s budget, said Frank Lazzeri, superintendent.

The board also granted approval to the Little Spartans football team to construct a utility building west of the maintenance garage on the Center Middle School property.

The Little Spartans will be responsible for construction of the new building and removal of a trailer.
