The Warren Post of the Ohio State Highway Patrol has recovered a vehicle it believes was involved in the hit-skip traffic crash that killed pedestrian Luke Macaluso, 19, of Leavittsburg, around 12:55 a.m. Friday. Macaluso and his girlfriend, Brittany Russell, 18, of Warren, were walking southbound on Center South Road when a light-colored vehicle traveling south on Center South Road struck and killed Macaluso and then fled the scene. Russell was not injured, according to the OSHP.

As of Saturday night, no arrests had been made in the traffic death, said the OSHP, which is processing the vehicle for evidence in an effort to determine the identity of the driver.

Anyone with information about the crash is asked to call the OSHP at 330-898-2311.

911 problems

NEWTON FALLS

Newton Falls Police Department reported problems with its 911 system Saturday, saying anyone who calls gets a busy signal. Sgt. Brian F. Foor requested that anyone with an emergency call either 330-872-5757 or 330-872-5758 until the system is repaired.

Grilling seminar

SALEM

Salem Community Center, 1098 N. Ellsworth Ave., will have a grilling seminar Monday night.

Chefs Steve James and Tom Champion will lead the class, which will feature The Fifth Season Restaurant and Catering Co.

The teaching begins at 7 p.m. and will include tips about grilling steak and vegetables. Registration is $8.

Route 30 resurfacing

Resurfacing work is set to begin Monday on more than 9 miles of U.S. Route 30 in Columbiana County, from Hanoverton’s east corporation line to the Stark County line.

Traffic will be maintained with flaggers.

The Ohio Department of Transportation District 4’s contractor for the $1.7 million project is the Shelly Co. from Thornville, Ohio, and the completion date is Aug. 31.
