New Bethel Baptist Church, 1507 Hillman St., will celebrate its 86th anniversary Sunday at 5 p.m.

The Rev. Gina Thornton and the Grace African Methodist Episcopal Church of Warren will be guests.

The theme is “Changing Lives through Transforming Love and Compassion.”

New Bethel was organized in 1924. Former locations include 125 Manning Ave. and 209 Reserve St. The church moved to its present location in 1964.

The Rev. Lonnie K.A. Simon was called to pastor in 1962 and retired after 33 years. The current pastor, the Rev. Kenneth L. Simon, was called to pastor in 1995.

Ground was broken for the new church on Sept. 22, 2002, and the new facility was dedicated Feb. 8, 2004.

Women’s Day

St. Andrewes African Methodist Episcopal Church, 521 W. Earle Ave., will celebrate Women’s Day at 10:45 a.m. Sunday.

The Rev. Robin Woodberry will be guest speaker. She is the daughter of Rev. Gena Thornton, pastor of the Grace A.M.E. Church in Warren, and Robert Thornton. She was called into the ministry in 1994 and was licensed to preach in March 1995 under the pastorate of the Rev. Lonnie A. Simon. Rev. Mrs. Woodberry was ordained April 24, 2005, under the pastorate of Rev. Kenneth L. Simon. She is an associate minister at New Bethel Baptist Church.

The Rev. and Mrs. David Verzilli, missionaries to Native American Indian nations on the Allegany Reservation, will speak at 10:30 a.m. Sunday at Covenant Life Fellowship, 5900 W. Liberty St.

Youth-led worship

The Youth Ministry of Restoration Christian Fellowship Church, 151 Folsom St. NW, will sponsor a youth-inspired worship service at 5 p.m. Sunday.

The service, titled “Youth Devoted To The Call,” is the second in a planned series of worship services designed to allow the youth to minister to youth. Ministering for this service will be various youth ministries from the church including the RCF Mime Ministry and RCF Youth Choir.

Minister Frenchie Boggs, director of the Young Adult Ministry, will speak.

Revival set

Trinity Baptist Church, 235 Highland Ave. SW, will host a revival at 7 p.m. Wednesday through Friday at the church.

The Rev. Talmadge J. Thomas, pastor of City of Zion in Toledo, will lead the revival.

The male chorus, youth choir and mass choir of Trinity will provide music. The Youth Ministry will perform mime.

The Rev. Grady Williams is host pastor.

Elder Conridge Richburg Smith will be guest speaker for the Men’s Day celebration at 10:45 a.m. Sunday at Grace African Methodist Episcopal Church, 1137 Main Ave. SW.

Elder Smith was called to Calvary Ministries International, Youngstown, where he served under the late Bishop Norman Wagner.

Ordination planned

Christopher K. Stark will be ordained at 2 p.m. Sunday in First Christian Church, 140 E. Broadway St., his home church.

Ron Maurer is pastor.

He is a student pastor at Lafayette Christian Church, Disciples of Christ, in Lexington, Ky. He is married to the former Amanda Kurta of McDonald, Pa., and he is a son of Susan Stark of Austintown and Mark Stark of Kinsman.

Stark graduated with a master’s of divinity degree from Lexington Theological Seminary in Lexington. He is the recipient of the Chalice Press Book Award from the Christian Board of Education.

He is a graduate of Mineral Ridge High School and Bethany College, Bethany, W.Va.

Mission service

Hubbard Central District Church of God in Christ will host a special fundraising service for evangelist Brenda L. Austin at 5 p.m. Sunday at Bibleland COGIC, 3767 Jacobs Road.

Host pastor is superintendent Eddie L. Jackson Sr.

Evangelist Austin is the missions president of the Ohio Central Jurisdiction of COGIC. She oversees mission programs for more than 50 churches in the district.

Funds will go to a trip she will take to Haiti in July.

Men’s Day celebration

Tabernacle Baptist Church, 707 Arlington St., will mark a Men’s Day celebration with a banquet at 4 p.m. today in S.P. Phillips fellowship hall.

Guest speaker will be the Rev. Dr. Shane Floyd, pastor of St. Paul African Methodist Episcopal Church in Cleveland.

The theme is “Soldiers for Christ.”

The cost is $10 for adults and $5 for those 12 and younger.

A worship service is scheduled for 10:45 a.m. Sunday and a concert at 4 p.m. with special guests, Mount Ararat Male Chorus of Pittsburgh.

Camp meeting

Peniel Holiness Camp Meeting, Route 18, will be from July 15-25.

The first day will feature a concert at 7 p.m. with Victory of Life Church choir and the final day, services at 10:30 a.m., 2:30 and 7:30 p.m.
