CANFIELD

A Canfield man remains in the hospital several days after he was struck by a car.

Robert Zimmerman, 50, was standing in the southbound lane of Palmyra Road about 9:30 p.m. Monday when a car traveling in the northbound lane went left of center, striking him, according to Ohio State Highway Patrol in Canfield.

The accident is under investigation, and the driver, a 22-year-old Youngstown man, hasn’t been charged at this time, according to the highway patrol.

Police gave no indication as to why Zimmerman was standing in the road or why the Youngstown man’s car left its lane.

Zimmerman was taken to St. Elizabeth Health Center, where he remained Friday night, and a condition report was unavailable. A family member who answered the phone in his hospital room declined to comment.
