The history of Lane Funeral Homes was reviewed by, at right, Wally Sinn when he spoke at a recent meeting of Austintown Rotary. An associate of the homes since 1965, and now vice president, Sinn said Lane Funeral Homes came into being in 1855 in Mineral Ridge as a combination funeral home and furniture store, and in 1934 it began to provide funeral service only. Sinn said the business was passed from one generation to the next, with the fifth generation of leadership assumed by Joseph D. Lane in 2002. As the 150th year of operation was celebrated in 2005, he noted that Lane Funeral Homes had evolved from one funeral home to seven, making it one of the leading firms in the state with more than 200 employees. Following the talk, Brian Laraway, Rotary president, left, presented a book to the speaker.
