Making it to the state track meet is great, but winning is even better.
Austintown Middle School boys Blue track Team members Ben Conley, Terry Worrell, Nathan Bowlen and Nick Sheely won the state track meet in the 4X400 relay event in Columbus May 30.
They also set a new record for the middle school’s 4X400 with a time of 3:42.57.
Bowlen has broken four other school track records. These records include the 200-meter dash, 400-meter dash, 4X100 and 4X200 relays.
All four students say they were excited and nervous about the meet. Despite their apprehension, the team triumphed and brought home the gold. They feel making it to the state competition was an accomplishment for them and for the school.
“There was a lot of pressure on us,” Bowlen said. “It was the most nervous I have ever been in my life.”
