Youngstown State has named Mark Klysner as men’s tennis coach on Wednesday.

Klysner spent the past two years as a Division I assistant and has experience as a college head coach.

Klysner was an assistant for both the men’s and women’s programs at Fairleigh Dickinson in 2009-10. The women’s team won the Northeast Conference regular-season conference title finished runner-up in the conference tournament, and the men’s team finished second in the NEC.

He spent 2008-09 as men’s and women’s assistant at Austin Peay. Before that he was the head men’s and women’s coach at Green River Community College in Auburn, Wash., for two seasons. At Green River, Klysner’s men’s team went undefeated both seasons.

“Coach Klysner brings a wealth of coaching and teaching experience that our program will greatly benefit from,” YSU athletic director Ron Strollo said. “He has worked with some fine young tennis players and helped further their on-court careers and that is something we know will continue at YSU.”

Klysner was assistant men’s and women’s coach at South Carolina-Aiken in 1999-2000.

“Throughout the interview process, I was impressed by the enthusiasm and commitment that the [YSU athletic] department showed towards athletics,” said Klysner. “I’m very excited to get to work and start building a program that can not only contend for a Horizon League title, but also compete at the national level.”

Klysner has also coached in the Canadian National Junior Program in Manitoba and has extensive experience as a teaching pro.

He was born in Hillerod, Denmark, but grew up in Winnipeg, Canada.

He played at South Carolina-Aiken and was nationally-ranked in both singles and doubles in 1999. He was named team MVP as a senior.

He was a member of the Canadian Junior National Team and, while competing on the Junior level, he earned a win over former world No. 1-Andy Roddick.
