Robbery probed

YOUNGSTOWN

Police are investigating an armed robbery on the city’s West Side.

According to police, a 41-year-old Cleveland man said he came to the city to visit a 26-year-old Steel Street woman just after 9 p.m. Tuesday. Shortly after arriving at the woman’s home, two armed men came into the house, tied them up and then stole his wallet, cell phone and Cadillac.

Police have a description of the two men, but no arrests had been made as of late Wednesday.

Waste agreement

NEW CASTLE, Pa.

Lawrence County commissioners have approved an agreement with Mercer County in which the Lawrence County Office of Recycling and Solid Waste will coordinate municipal solid-waste and recycling activities for both counties.

Mercer will contribute a share of the salaries of the department’s two employees.

Commissioners also accepted the resignation of John Klenotic, who for the past 25 years has served as director of the Lawrence County Mental Health/Retardation Department. He also had served as the department’s finance director. His last day of work will be Aug. 17.

Park plans event

Boardman Township Park will present its family fun night in the park Saturday at the Maag Outdoor Arts Theatre. The free event starts at 6 p.m. with a science-themed, fire-and-ice performance by Mad Science of Northeast Ohio.

At 7 p.m., light rock and blues music will be performed by No Ties. At the concert’s conclusion, the movie “Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs” begins.

Other activities include Jocko the Clown, hayrides, Bounce Around rental bouncers and face painting by Calvary Baptist Church members. Food concessions will be available. Attendees should bring blankets or lawn chairs.

I-80 congestion

Recent traffic congestion on Interstate 80 East prompted the Ohio Department of Transportation to note that I-80 Eastbound near the Mount Everett Road bridge in the township is reduced to one lane because of road paving on the interstate. Bridge work also is ongoing.

The work, which began about six weeks ago, should be completed by fall.
