That broke a record held by Herb Score, who fanned 40 in his first four major league starts for Cleveland in 1955.

Brett Myers pitched seven effective innings, and Jeff Keppinger had three RBIs as Houston beat San Francisco to snap a five-game losing streak. Myers (5-5) allowed three runs, one earned.
