Mahoning Co. grand jury indicts two men on murder charges


YOUNGSTOWN — A Mahoning County grand jury has indicted two men charged in a recent homicide and a man facing charges of child pornography.

The grand jury handed up indictments today against Albert E. Whitted III, 23, of East Boston Avenue, and Joseph Valentine, 21, of E. Avondale Avenue, on charges of aggravated murder, murder, kidnapping and aggravated robbery. They are in Mahoning County jail on $1 million bond each.

Whitted and Valentine are charged in the death of Marlon Chatman, 28, who was shot twice in the leg earlier this month at 360 W. Chalmers Ave. Chatman was shot after he let two men into the house. He died a short time later in St. Elizabeth Health Center.

William McCants, 42, of Garfield Street, was indicted on 50 counts of having sexually oriented material involving children. He is charged with 10 counts of illegal use of a minor in nudity oriented material, 15 counts of pandering obscenity involving a minor, and 25 counts of pandering sexually oriented matter involving a minor. He also is in the county jail.
