Magnitude-4.0 quake rattles Calif-Mexico border

OCOTILLO, Calif. (AP) — A magnitude-4.0 temblor has shaken the aftershock zone of the big Easter earthquake along the California-Mexico border.

The U.S. Geological Survey says Thursday’s midmorning quake was centered on the U.S. side two miles southeast of the town of Ocotillo and about 24 miles west of El Centro.

Thousands of aftershocks have followed Easter Sunday’s deadly 7.2-magnitude quake that rocked the border region and caused more than $100 million in damage in California alone.

The largest aftershock so far was a 5.7 jolt on June 15. Seismologists say aftershocks can go on for months, even years.
